About the Author
JAKE PERRINE began making bloops and bleeps with computers on an Apple II+ when he was 12. He has been an audio engineer for Real Networks and a mastering engineer at RFI/CD, and has taught professional audio production for over a decade at the Art Institute of Seattle. He has written and directed a rock opera entitled Vamp, releases his own solo electronic music under the name Spire, and is half of the electropop duo Bloom.

Brilliant overview of the impossibly endless learning you can delve into in Ableton 9! Mr. Perrine definitely knows his way around the kitchen and what spices to use while still writing a more user friendly, understandable approach to learning your way around Ableton. I only wish he would update it for the new features that came with 9.5 suite. But, then again, no one could have seen those awesome features coming! Cheers, Mr. Perrine! My only regret is that I bought the book online and missed out on the extra disc!

These books are great. I would start with Producing Music with Ableton Live 9 if you just spent 900 bucks and have no idea what you are doing. I'm getting my money out of my investment with just a few 20 dollar book.

This is a really impressive book, or should I say a battle plan that has really caught my attention with its description. As I started reading I was amazed by interesting techniques offered. It made me a stronger person and more aware of machinations of enemies in our midst. A must have for anyone looking to win in life’s situations. Highly recommended.

Have the edge through mind control

This book teaches its readers great information about mind control. The idea of controlling minds amazes me. I never thought it really exists and there’s something to learn with the ability to influence. Yes, I agree with the possible mind control is intimidation. I am usually a victim of intimidation where I end up with no choice. Mind control is never easy and it’s truly wonderful to know that some people really possess this kind of ability to manipulate someone’s mind. It’s an advantage to have learning about the techniques of mind control, not to take advantage of people, but merely to defend oneself and win.

Really good book and worth the read for sure!

The key takeaway from this book I would say is the fact that I learned the mind can do so much more than I previously imagined. It truly is amazing what you can do with your mind and you can tip the balance of any situation just with a thought. I feel like now I am more focused, conscious about my surroundings and kind of like more in control of my life. Really good book and worth the read for sure!

This is an enjoyable read and a welcome addition to the relatively limited selection of true science fiction for young readers, by which I mean stories based interesting ideas and without fantasy elements. The story is suspenseful, with surprises to keep you guessing. As a parent, I also appreciate that although Landfall could be classified as either later middle grade or early YA, its subject matter and language are appropriate for children of any reading age, with a warning that it does contain some physical violence. I'm ready to read the next installment.

Gripping adventure, page-turner, my kid couldn't put it down!

My fifth grader read this book in almost one sitting--I had to make her go to sleep. She loved it so much, I read it myself. This book rocks. It's smart, engaging, the characters are sharp and fun to follow, and (my favorite aspect) the world is built so well--no details missed, all the future technology is thought out to the finest details. The plot is gripping, and as it ended I knew I had to read the second (and I did! And it's just as satisfying!). This series is a winner. Totally recommended for middle school aged kids on up.

Compelling sci-fi—even for those who aren't always fans of the genre

I have to admit I'm not a sci-fi fan; a friend recommended this for my son, so I previewed it. I soon realized I was hooked! As previous reviewers have noted, it's the well-constructed world that holds this book together and draws the reader in. The concept of humanity pooling all remaining resources and carving a semi-habitable world out of an asteroid in order to escape a dying Earth reads like a plausible "what-if" scenario that I want to learn more about. We feel the tension on the "Ship" and the emotional stake in discovering the possible existence of other humans. The fictional society's hierarchies and rites of passage serve a secondary purpose as a refreshingly subtle device to explain the world to the readers—a solution to a persistent problem with the genre. As "cadets" learn from their superiors, the reader develops a better understanding of their world, as well. One more detail: I was relieved to see a smart, strong, emotionally stable female character who does not (yet?) develop into just a romantic interest for the main male character. I look forward to the rest of the series!

Plain and Predicatable, but still worth reading

If I hadn't read other books by Belva Plain, I would give this book 5 stars. It was a good book, but she has done so much better in books like Evergreen and Legacy of Silence. This was a fast read (I did it in 3 days, along with working 8 hours each day and studying) and I was wrapt until the middle of the book, when I realized exactly what was going to happen. I finished the book, with hopes that I was incorrect. I was disappointed with the transparent climax, but overall this is worthwhile, especially if you haven't read any of Plain's greater works or can forget that you have.

An engaging, breathtaking story

I had never even heard of Belva Plain when I saw this novel for sale at our library, but I thought the synopsis was intriguing and boy was I right.

Where to begin? The characters were wonderful--full of real life emotion and actions and often complex. The writing was also well done--admittedly the story started off a bit slow for me, but that is because the real drama of the story was yet to come. Once things really got dicey, it was tough to put this book down (though sadly I had to a few times with everything going on for the holiday weekend). In some ways, the story is part mystery, though mainly it is about a woman, Hyacinth, who is coping with a nasty divorce, limited time with her own children, and an inability to really trust people and sometimes even be around them. She lives in daily fear that her ex-husband will expose a secret that she can hardly believe even happened. Eventually another man comes into her life, but as much as she loves him, her inability to trust him and disclose what has happened in her past ultimately comes between them. Of course, there is her ex-husband's partner, Arnie, who we know is in love with her throughout the entire story, though she doesn't feel that she can reciprocate those feelings. Do you see how the story quickly becomes complicated and heart-wrenching at times? Oh, and as for that ex-husband, Gerald... boy do you love to hate him, or at least I did. A more condescending, unreasonable, unfaithful jerk you'll be hard-pressed to find, though he tries so hard to cover it all up with his "charm."

When the truth about that tragic secret was finally revealed, I have to admit I was pretty surprised. I suppose I ought to have seen it coming, but I think that in many ways I am as naive as our protagonist, Hyacinth. Plain really did a brilliant job weaving an incredible story that at times seems almost unbelievable, though in reality stranger things have happened. It is rewarding to see Hyacinth's life start to turn around, though her road is certainly bumpy as she tries to move on from what has happened to her.
