The Massage Therapy Text You Must Have

This is the most comprehensive text written in the field of massage therapy. It is a detailed and complete guide to the assessment and treatment of the majority of conditions that we as therapists are faced with.

Canadian massage therapy education is above and beyond most in the world and certainly within North America. This is one of our required texts and the foundation for our treatment based approach to healing. These authors have been instrumental in the advancement of Canadian therapist education and the development and elevation of our standards of practice.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their massage therapy knowledge and gain a treatment based focus to their work.

Too Wordy and unorganized

This book is known as the "bible" for Clinical Massage Therapist. For sure, Rattray knows clinical massage, but she doesn't convey it very well in this format. It too wordy...just a bunch of unneccesary info. She really could have gotten to the point and written this book on a lot less paper. You can't find some information contained in the book in the index or table of contents. It's frustrating. You find yourself flipping through a bunch of pages trying to locate material needed. I had to take this book apart and put it into a binder, after getting rid of the excess. The book is thick, bulky and the cover is paper, and not reinforced paper or cardboard. It will not hold up well as a constant reference tool. The paper it's written on is thin. If you purchase it, be prepared to take it apart or be frustrated. You can get this one cheaper than the asking price of these sellers. This book is not for a beginner, unless you have an instructor to guide you.

Both internal and external flow problems are covered and compared with experimental results and analytical solutions. Covered topics include airfoil flow, boundary layers, flow meters, heat exchanger, natural and forced convection, pipe flow, rotating flow, tube bank flow and valve flow.

Good to have, but not perfect

I bought this here because it was one of two places I could find this book - period! The book was slightly lacking in detail and the layout isn't amazing. All-in-all, it's a good resource if you have some knowledge to go with it! Luckily my friend did several hours of online research before we attempted to swap the clutch in my Paseo! ;-)

Few places in the world possess greater historical complexity than the culturally diverse region of Southeast Asia. A History of Southeast Asia: Critical Crossroads presents a comprehensive, single-volume history of Southeast Asia from its encounters with agriculture, metallurgy, and religion to the late emergence of the ten states that make up this region today. Breaking from the dominant colonial and nationalist narrative that highlights Southeast Asia’s quest for statehood as its defining characteristic, historian Anthony Reid shifts the primary focus to factors of greater relevance to its inhabitants, such as environmental, religious, social, cultural, demographic, health, and intellectual changes. The result is a fuller and more richly detailed account of the region’s complex and nuanced history.

Reid reveals Southeast Asia’s distinctive gender pattern was challenged first by scriptural religions and later by European models of middle-class domesticity. Also covered is the seventeenth-century impoverishment of the region relative to European society, and Southeast Asia’s “peasantization” during the high colonial era. Concluding chapters focus on transformative events of the twentieth century: from the region’s development as a major battleground for the Pacific War with its aftermath of decolonization and the Cold War to the region’s long-awaited emergence from poverty, dictatorship, and conflict in the final decades of the century. A History of Southeast Asia: Critical Crossroads is indispensable for understanding the historic rhythm of this important crossroads of the Asian continent.

About the Author

Anthony Reid is Professor Emeritus at the College of Asia and the Pacific, Australian National University. He has taught and researched Southeast Asian history for 50 years, in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and the United States. He was Founding Director of the Asia Research Institute in Singapore. He has authored or edited numerous books on aspects of Southeast Asian history from the 14th to the 21st centuries, including explorations on slavery, freedom, Islam, gender, the Chinese minority and its Jewish analogy, population, and economic history.

Really good book but it needs better maps

I haven't read it all the way through but from what I've read it is very good. I do think it needs some more maps as it describes a lot of places in the book and the maps that are provided are somewhat confusing. But the level of scholarship here is very high.
